Schools are increasingly interviewing or observing children interacting in small groups, so there is a real benefit in preparing them to know what to expect, and how to manage themselves on the day. This is where JKās group and individual interview preparations provide valuable preparation and practice. We also provide interview preparation support for students facing sixth form and university entrance interviews.
Preparation for individual interviews
This preparation gives our students the confidence and skills they need to create a good impression. We explain the interview process, give examples of the questions that are asked and help the child consider how they would answer in āliveā conditions.
Depending on the school, the process can vary, but we provide top interview tips, helping the child understand that no answer is wrong, as long as it can be explained and is delivered with confidence. We look at the importance of voice projection and the dynamics of interacting with others in group interview situations. Our interview preparation also includes a mock English oral comprehension and questions based on a piece of art.
Interview preparation sessions last for an hour and parents are encouraged to attend too so they can practise some of the skills with their child after the session.
We also offer mock individual interviews each year, alongside mock group interviews.

11+ Mock group interview
Children are often interviewed or observed interacting in small groups, so there is a real benefit in preparing them with 11+ mock group interview sessions.
Our mock group interview consists of a three-hour session with a maximum of 6 children in a group. The group interview tasks are delivered by a qualified, experienced senior teacher. An experienced member of the JK team watches the childrenās responses and then writes up their observations and recommendations for each child. Each session is highly interactive and very similar to the type of activities and tasks that are given to children in group interview situations. Our morning sessions start promptly at 9am and the finish time will be 12. Our afternoon sessions start at 2pm and finish at 5pm.
The skills we test during these mock interviews include: listening skills, collaboration, leadership skills, team work, general knowledge and the childās behaviour. We always want this to be a very positive and helpful experience, so that in the real interviews they will be able to show their very best!
We will follow up this day with a brief report on each childās performance in the mock group interview. This report will be sent to parents along with some general information and tips to help you be involved in your childās preparations for the real interviews, using this valuable feedback.
